Agriculture has been a part and parcel of human civilization. The scent of soil and the rhythm of farming are inextricably linked to the mind of every human being. No wonder, we address nature as “Mother Nature”. These days, it’s true that we are being pushed away from that harmonious relation, opening the path for a consumer culture to emerge. It is therefore both a requirement and a responsibility to conserve as well as pass on our rich agrarian culture to future generations. Kisan Radio has shouldered this not-so-easy responsibility, and is pushing the boundaries to restore the beautiful consonance that existed between humans and nature.

Radio has always been described a homely medium because of its intimate relation with its listeners. Located in Wayanad district of Kerala, Kisan Radio is an initiative of a group of young people who love agriculture, and aims to attract more people into it. Traditionally, an agrarian society, Wayanad is home to traditional farming practices and crop varieties.

Kisan Radio is carving its own path, in this internet age, to become the voice of farmers and common people. The alarming growth of consumerism has changed everything, including our food habits. This has led to far-stretching concerns such as increased rate of lifestyle diseases, health issues, food safety, safe food – to mention a few. We were a populace who were alien to such issues in the past. The sole way out is to restore and expand the fast-disappearing farming culture.

Kisan Radio has set the stage for every person to understand and learn farming – from the farmer who prepares the field, to the man who eats with gusto – through popular programs. The aim is to inculcate in our children the urgency for attaining food self-sufficiency, pass traditional knowledge, introduce new farming methods, irrigation systems, market-friendly crop management, product diversification, and income generation. Kisan Radio is a lifeline for the farmer from “seed to market”.
